Abraar – Spiritual Links ("Abraar", "we") runs abraar.org, a free website of duʿās, ziyārāt, prayer times, talks and community information, based in Greater Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This policy explains what information the website handles and why. We collect as little as possible: there are no user accounts for visitors, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking cookies.
Information you give us
Contact form. When you send a message through our contact page, we receive your name, email address, the topic and subject you choose, and your message. It is sent to us by email so we can reply. We do not use it for anything else, add you to a mailing list, or sell or share it. Messages are kept in our email inbox for as long as needed to deal with them.
Information handled automatically
Server logs. Like every website, our host (Hostinger) records basic technical details of each visit — IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time — for security and to keep the site running. We do not use these logs to identify visitors.
Your location for prayer times (optional). If you press "Use my location" on the Prayer Times page, your browser asks your permission and gives the page your approximate coordinates. Prayer times and the Qibla direction are calculated in your browser; your coordinates are not sent to or stored by us. To show the name of your city, the coordinates are sent to BigDataCloud's free reverse-geocoding service (bigdatacloud.com). You can type a location instead, or decline the permission.
Saved pages on your device. If you install the website as an app or revisit it, your browser keeps copies of pages you have opened so they work offline. These stay on your device and can be removed by clearing the site's data in your browser settings.
Cookies. The public website sets no cookies of its own. The only cookie we set is a sign-in session cookie for our administrators (see below).
Content from other services
Some pages show content from other companies. When it loads, your browser connects to them and they receive your IP address and browser details under their own privacy policies:
- Videos from Vimeo (loaded with Vimeo's "do not track" setting) and YouTube (via youtube-nocookie.com, only after you press play).
- Fonts from Google Fonts.
- Office documents (Word, PowerPoint) are displayed with Microsoft's Office viewer.
- Links to other websites, such as our YouTube and Vimeo channels, are governed by those sites' policies.
Google sign-in (administrators only)
Our administrators sign in to the site's admin page with their Google account. When they do, Google shares their name, email address and profile picture with us; we use only the email address, to check that the person is on our list of authorised administrators and to record which administrator saved a change. We do not request access to any other Google data (such as Gmail, Drive or Contacts). The sign-in is kept in a session cookie that expires after 8 hours or on sign-out, and the record of saved changes is kept on our server for our own reference.
Abraar's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. This information is not shared with anyone, sold, or used for advertising.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only with the service providers named above as needed to run the website, or where the law requires it.
Security and retention
The website is served over HTTPS. Contact messages and administrator records are kept only as long as needed for the purposes above. Contact-form addresses and administrator records are stored in a part of our server that is not accessible from the web.
Children
The website is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
You may ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you — for example a message you sent us — by writing to us through the contact page (choose "Website issue"). We will respond within 30 days, in line with Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act).
Changes
If we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top.
